Education & Agriculture

Delivering our charitable mission – sharing the story of food, farming, countryside and country living.

The Newbury & District Agricultural Society (NADAS) is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity with the main purpose being to educate the general public in the need to preserve the countryside and wildlife, and to promote and support British agriculture, horticulture, forestry and rural crafts industries.

Bringing the Countryside to the Classroom

The Newbury & District Agricultural Society pride itself on delivering fun, hands-on learning events and activities focused on food, farming and the countryside to children across Berkshire, South Oxfordshire, East Wiltshire and North Hampshire. Workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of the school setting.

The award winning* educational programme helps with meeting the Society’s charitable aims, by engaging children in the countryside and boosting their knowledge of the British farming industry, by educating them of the origins of food, its production and how everyone can benefit from home grown produce.

The education programme is offered to schools in our catchment area free or charge, and gets booked up very quickly! To avoid disappointment contact our education officer today on for more information.

The Society has been awarded a Business Ambassador Award, given by the Education Business Partnership at West Berkshire Council. This recognises businesses, individuals and organisations who give their time and expertise to support students to develop aspirations and employability. Education at the society was shortlisted in the national Bayer/FACE awards category for ‘Inspiring Educator’ in 2015 and 2017. In 2019, the Society was ‘Highly Commended’ for the Bayer/LEAF award – Primary School Partnership.

Education - our mission

As a not-for-profit, charitable organisation, the Newbury & District Agricultural Society’s key mission is to engage, educate and entertain children in the countryside in order to boost their appreciation of the vital role of the British farming industry.

We achieve this delivering interactive learning on the myriad of sources of food, how it is produced and how everyone can benefit from healthily grown produce.

Our Education Programme is offered to schools free of charge. We would not be able to do this without the kind donations and support received from the following local businesses and organisations.

Additionally, all profits generated by the annual Newbury Show are invested into our education programmes so that we can go farther in delivering our education mission.
